Learn how to Love & Lead a Successful Business (without sacrificing your health, values, or authenticity)
The workforce is changing! In 2016, women held 51.5% of all management, professional, and related occupations. Finally, we have closed the gender gap in leadership! But, it has still come at a cost for many of us. We often struggle to balance our work and family lives; we are experiencing an increase in chronic health issues; and we continue to contend with double standards that require us to work much harder to prove ourselves than our male counterparts. As our presence in leadership roles increase (and the presence of women in the workforce, in general, increases), it may be time for us to consider this: The old approaches to leadership may no longer be applicable. It isn't just the fact that the majority of the people we work with are women - we also have smart phones, rapidly advancing technology, millennials, political tension, and more diversity than ever before.
When we try to manage under the "old model" of management, we find ourselves working incredibly hard, but not really getting anywhere. Instead, we spend the majority of our time dealing with unhappy employees, who are constantly complaining, quitting, or threatening to quit. Or, we spin our wheels trying to deal employees who are consistently lazy... And, while we try to respond to employee turnover and employee discipline issues, we also find ourselves doing everyone else's work or spending an excessive amount of time cleaning up mistakes and poor quality. In the end, we are left with less time than we need to actually LEAD the business forward. For us, it seems that there is constant chaos, crisis, and "issues" to attend to. While we're busy putting out fires, we aren't receiving the respect we deserve. What does all of this lead to? Stress. Anxiety. Chronic pain. Frequent illness. Weight gain. And the list goes on.
Eventually, we find ourselves completely consumed by the businesses we lead. And then, we arrive at Executive Burnout.
Executive Burnout creates a cycle of dysfunction. The more your team fails to meet expectations, the harder you have to work (doing a job that takes you away from your role as a leader), and the more burned out you become. The more burned out you get (and the less time you hav to actually lead), the harder it is to get anyone to do what they’re supposed to do. This is an extremely difficult cycle to break! Some people can never break out of it... and they eventually end up quitting, getting fired, or going off the deep end.
You do not need to live like this. As an executive who was once caught in this exhausting cycle of trying to manage a toxic work environment, I know how difficult it can be to find your way out. But you can, once you understand how collective energy works and take some important (but easy and practical) steps to get your business un-stuck. Shifting the energy in your workplace will change your life (at work and home). Once you do,
You will no longer have to work as hard as you are right now
You will gain confidence in your leadership abilities
You will be able to make changes or grow your company without resistance
You will be an inspiration to your team
You will get the business outcomes you want
Most importantly, you will be able to experience the fulfillment of successfully leading your business while still having enough time and energy to enjoy your family and explore your passions.
